Powerflor continually seeks to maximize utilization of the natural resources it uses, and to reduce or eliminate waste, back into the environment. This pursuit includes our internal, recycled paper use, energy conservation, and reduction in fossil fuel usage programs, just to name a few. In fact, conservation plays a role in every aspect of how we operate our business. In addition, our environmental responsibility does not stop at our doors.
We know it is not enough to limit our commitment to our internal operations. To achieve the highest possible results, we must seek out raw materials that are made and used with the same environmental consciousness. Moreover, seek to provide products that will allow our customers to achieve these same goals. We feel every aspect of our business should encourage environmental responsibility.
Powerflor’s use of polycarbonate as the largest raw material component of the system, is one example of our efforts. This material is a moldable plastic resin, with extensive durability and life properties. Polycarbonate is manufactured via condensation polymerization and can be referred to with the chemical name Poly Bisphenol-A Carbonate. During the original manufacture of this polymer, all by-products are completely reused or treated in accordance with strict EPA guidelines. Polycarbonate contains 0 % poly-vinyl chloride ( PVC ) material, a known harmful ingredient of most plastic materials.
Additionally, all of our polycarbonate components are manufactured using only 20% virgin polycarbonate. The remaining 80% used, is recycled polycarbonate, further enhancing our utilization goals. Once this raw material is processed into Powerflor components, it is 100% recyclable, through multiple generations.
Our use of polycarbonate, as our prime raw material, is a major part, in the achievement of our goal, to have a minimum impact on the environment.
Powerflor provides the cabling infrastructure, for office and academic facilities utilizing a new and unique concept. This uniqueness is not limited to its functionality. It extends to an overall environmental impact, which is a mere fraction of traditional products, which provide the same service and function.
Today’s cabling infrastructures are based on materials, manufacturing, and installation processes that have not changed for over 40 years. These same processes have contributed to the environmental issues we face today. Equally important, the functionality of traditional cabling installations has changed little. Once the service or location is no longer useful, it is replaced. This single use concept results in the development of vast quantities of solid waste. It has been estimated that up to 85% of the materials used for interior construction, are returned to the environment, as solid waste, after a single use. In addition, viable, cost effective options for reducing this waste development, are being overlooked.
The Powerflor system significantly reduces, or in some cases eliminates this waste development. Our polycarbonate components are combined with pre-manufactured outlets and cable assemblies to provide a complete system, that is 100 % reusable, and is 99 % recyclable. Additionally, wide selections of modular carpet tile surfaces, that are 100 % recyclable, are available to provide the finished surface.
The basis of the Powerflor system’s design is adaptability. Providing a cabling infrastructure that is effective, convenient and affordable, to use and reuse as the user’s requirements change. By extending the useful life of the cabling infrastructure, we eliminate the solid waste development that normally occurs. We provide a product that is not restrictive or has cost consequences, to accomplish environmental responsibility.
